JUNE 4th: The Day Barack Obama Becomes Democratic Party Nominee

Prediction: The last primary is June 3rd.  A well placed, high ranking Democratic Party official tells me that on June 4th, it is likely that enough uncommitted superdelegates will make up their minds on whether to back Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton and the bet is, the official said, Obama will get the obamasister72official nod.

True, Hillary Clinton did apparently win Indiana as of this writing, but Obama’s margin of victory over Clinton in North Carolina is likely to convince many of those uncommitted superdelgates that, though flawed, Obama will be the party’s best bet against John McCain come November.

A powerful argument runs counter to this, tough. It goes like this: Obama has a real problem winning the big, industrial states. That should make Clinton the more attractive presidential candidate.

But, the superdelegates (party officials, congresspeople, governors and others elected and not) who will end up deciding this contest, are more than likely going to end up giving the nomination to Obama anyway because, in many ways, it is the easier thing to do: Obama will clearly have more pledged delegates than Clinton come June 3rd and more of the popular vote. Behind the scene, one superdelegate tells me, there is enormous pressure to solve the Florida/Michigan fiasco with a 50-50 split decision which would still leave Obama with more of the popular vote and more of the pledged delegates.

No Denver Battle

No one really wants this thing to be unsettled come convention time in Denver in August. It would be too unpredictable.

By the time the convention begins, the Democratic Party will have its presidential and vice-presidential nominees.

Obama will be the presidential nominee. But, who will be his veep?

Stay tuned.

The Great Terrorist Peanut Butter Plot?

Posted on May 4, 2008
Filed Under Journalism, News, commentary | Leave a Comment

Crunchy or smooth? That’s the question I would like to pose to a would-be terrorist bent on launching an attack using peanut butter.

What’s that…you haven’t heard? Peanut butter is the next big “terrorist thing.”

Must be.

Because, while going through TSA insecurity at San Francisco International Airport today, a jar of expensive (around 7 or 8 dollars) smooth style peanut butter caused some concern among the boobs who are passed off as guardians of our air safety.

Now, to be fair to the morons, Peanut Butter is both a paste and a liquid, especially when the peanut oil separates. So, by that definition, it had two strikes against it on the Fed’s list of things that can’t be brought on board an airliner.

Time to use brains

But, the time has come for the Transportation Insecurity Authority to hire people with brains and that means all the way to the top TSA nitwit–Michael Chertoff.

If we really are concerned that terrorists are going to take over the world using home-made peanut butter, then I think they have already sort of won and it is time to give up the ghost, as they say.

First of all, if a terrorist was bent on blowing something up using peanut butter, they would clearly opt for the crunchy type since the small bits of peanuts would cause far more damage than the smooth variety.

Second–what is peanut butter without bread and jelly? Nothing, that’s what.

So, a clever TSA type (do they exist?) would be on the lookout not only for someone with a jar of peanut butter, but others in line carrying loaves of white bread and jars of grape jelly!  Only when these ingredients are fully assembled, is the true horror of the peanut butter terrorist weapon apparent…..It is the ultimate WMD–weapon of messy destruction.

Obama Gets Couple More Votes Than Clinton In Guam;Man In Hotel Room Near Me Backs Obama!

Barack Obama won Guam by something like a couple of votes, “defeating” Hillary Clinton and proving he can win Island natives…though they actually don’t get to vote in the General Election come November. But, that would probably be great comfort to the guy whose car is parked near my rental at the Heritage House in Mendocino, CA.He has an Obama in 08 bumper sticker affixed to his vehicle. Now, I will wager a bet that if I went over and asked him about the Guam vote, he’d be able to brag about how Obama has won another one over Clinton and that it is time for her to bail. But, I will also wager a bet that the buffoon in the next bungalow couldn’t tell you three or even two things about how Obama will bring about the change he says he will usher in should he capture the White House…which he won’t.Next week, there will be two big primary battles and I will wager yet again that few of Obama’s supporters can articulate what Obama will actually do–or says he will do, which has been a hallmark of his candidacy. In his own book, Obama says he wants to be a blank slate upon which people can project what they wish! How lofty a goal for someone seeking to become President!

Take A Slow Plane To China: Airlines Start Flying Slower To Save Fuel Costs

Just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse at U.S. airlines, comes word that things have gotten worse at U.S. airlines.

Seems they are actually flying their airplanes slower to save fuel costs!

So much for the “jet age.”–According to an Associated Press report, many major and not so major airlines are slowing their planes down in the sky to save costs.

The A.P. says Southwest started flying slower a few months back, which is expected to save the budget airline something like $42 million in fuel costs by the end of 2008.

United, says A.P., is spending what little money it has left on flight planning software that will help its pilots figure out what speed to fly the plane that costs the least amount of money.

In some cases, flying slower means shifting down from 542 miles per hour to about 532 mph which adds minutes to the planned flight time.

Isn’t the whole idea about flying to get to where you want to go as quickly as possible?

Barack Obama Sinking In New Poll : Fox News Channel

Is Barack Obama sinking? That may well be an overstatement, but it is safe to say that he is taking on a lot of water and is in danger of going under.

Says who?   Says the results of a new Fox News poll just out.

Obama’s favorable rating is going south–according to FOX: “Nearly half of Democrats (48 percent) think Hillary Clinton has a better chance of beating John McCain in November, 10 percentage points higher than the 38 percent who think Barack Obama can win.”

As recently as March, more Democrats said Obama was the more likely Democrat to beat McCain in a general election.  As FOX puts it, this is a “significant shift.”

Take Me To Your Leader?

Worse still for Obama, the Fox poll shows that Democrats favor Clinton as the party leader.

And then, there is the “wimp” factor: The Fox poll shows that “many more Democrats describe Clinton as ‘tough’ and as being more in touch with the American people than Obama.

Can a “wimp” –real or perceived–get elected President of the United States in 2008?

I doubt out.

Rev. Wright Will Stop Obama From Being Elected President!

Posted on April 29, 2008
Filed Under Journalism, News, commentary | Leave a Comment

Barack Obama will NOT be the next President of the United States. That much I am certain of.  Whether the next occupant of the Oval Office will be Hillary Clinton or John McCain is a different question.

But, for now, let’s stick with Obama.

Today, he found himself denouncing the latest zany remarks from his former pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, who, over the past several days, has made a total ass of himself by continuing his anti-American and plainly racist thunder.

“I am outraged by the comments that were made and saddened over the spectacle…” said Obama. “The person that I saw yesterday was not the person that I met 20 years ago. His comments were not only divisive and destructive, but I believe that they end up giving comfort to those who prey on hate.”

Finally, he’s got it

Yes, that is exactly right. Finally, Obama is telling it like it is. Problem is, he so clearly appears to be saying all the “right things” –as Rev. Wright has said–simply to get himself elected.

Keep in mind, it is not as if Obama just recently met Wright and is shocked by the radical preacher’s idiocy. He’s known him some 20 years and his daughters were baptized by Wright. Without Wright, in fact, one can make a very convincing argument that Barack Obama would not have come this far in politics.

So, it is ironic that the man who provided the gas Obama needed to run, has now slammed on the brakes ,probably ending any chance of Obama being elected President, even if he should win the Democratic Party nomination–which, itself, seems iffy right about now.

Boxed Into A Corner

For Obama, this is the worst of all possible worlds: Not only are many white voters increasingly concerned about voting for him, but many black voters are likely to view Obama’s denouncing of Wright as a supreme act of betrayal of a close and dear friend.

The fact is, Obama can’t be trusted..at least not as yet. He doesn’t deserve to be elected President and shouldn’t be.
