This is why the feds get the big bucks…or, at least, taxpayer bucks: A new report from the Agriculture Department says more than one in seven American households is finding it hard just putting food on the table, according to an Associated Press dispatch. That happens to be the highest rate since that department began keeping tabs on this back in 1995.
But here is my favorite part of the report…which paints a sad picture, indeed, of the current state of the American economy: “Researchers blamed the increase in hunger on a lack of money and other resources,” the A.P. quotes the federal officials as saying in the report.
Now there is a novel notion: Lack of money leads to lack of food leads to more and more hunger!
And what does Obama-man have to say about this–which is happening on his watch, of course? Well, the president is in China tonight….probably wolfing down some outrageous Chinese food…but a statement was issued in his name referring to the report. Says the prez, “The fist task is to restore job growth, which will help relieve the economic pressures that make it difficult for parents to put a square meal on the table each day.”
How come if the first task is to restore job growth, that seems to have come in last among all the other fixes that have thus far been made or attempted to the still very ailing economy?
Oh, and it gets worse I hate to tell you: these numbers reflect the situation in this country back in 2008!!! Can you imagine what the statistics will reveal once the 2009 figures are eventually factored in?
