I’d like to think the Illinois man just busted for allegedly stealing more than $45,000 worth of eyeglasses is a politician of some type: who else would be so myopic that they would need so many pair?

Unfortunately, the Associated Press story fails to mention what the man does for a living….though we apparently know what he does for a hobby.

The story goes like this: According to prosecutors, the 38 year old man held up three shops over a three month period. He’d go in, says the A.P., say he has a gun and then steal pairs of expensive glasses —names such as Gucci and Prada. He took no money.

I know what you’re thinking: OK, so this dude is stealing high end glasses and selling them for a profit.

Turns out, that is not the case at all.

According to the criminal complaint, as reported by the wire serrvice, the man says he “really likes to be around glasses.”  He apparently digs standing in front of a mirror and trying them on, after which he tosses them!

This unique fetish could send the guy to prison for 120 years not to mention the hefty six figure fine.

Should he opt for a plea bargain, I do hope the man will read the fine print…I mean, God knows he has enough eyeglasses to see clearly.
