It was Barack Obama vs. Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal tonight, each trying to frame for Americans what they view as the fix for what is ailing the American economy.

Obama’s speech before a joint session of Congress was long, took on everything from health care to Iraqi troop withdrawals and outlined plans for some pretty ambitious spending of money to seed many different areas of the economy.

Giving the GOP response, Jindal–who some thinkmay run for Obama’s job-says the President’s plan is irresponsible and will only serve to increase both taxes and the national debt.

Right now, opinion polls tend to show Obama has the confidence of the American people, but that could change at the drop of a hat, especially if people can no longer afford to buy a hat.

The thing about most economic plans is they take a long time to demonstrate whether or not they are, in fact, working.

So the real question is how long does the President have until the public gets restless ,should no major improvement appear even on the horizon?
