Obama’s Victory? More Like Obama’s Big Let Down. Congress Passes “Stimulus” Plan; Real Money Goes To Banks,Though

by Charles Feldman on February 13, 2009

Done deal.  Congress passes President Obama’s so-called stimulus plan. A few problems, though:

No GOP support of any substance. No Republicans voted yes in the House and only three in the Senate…

The Plan is less than what Obama said he initially needed and much less than most experts think is demanded by the current crisis…

Obama gave away so much in a failed attempt to win GOP backing, the plan bears little resemblance to what was initially proposed..Much heavier on tax cuts and much lighter on spending..

And, here is the biggest problem. While our eyes are being diverted to watch the debate over the stimulus package, Obama’s administration is about to help the banking industry commit the biggest robbery of taxpayer money since….well…since the last biggest robbery of taxpayer money only months ago with the original bailout—you know, the one where banks were supposed to get all this money and start loaning it out again only didn’t because they kept most of it for themselves!

If we are going to avoid the next Great Depression, Obama is going to have to come up with more than this…show wiser leadership and stop trying to be friends with everyone. This is politics, not a frat gathering.
