You all ready?   The Age of Obama is about to begin!

Make sure you have your Barack Obama t-shirts, plates, coffee mugs, running suits, umbrellas, silverware, coins, books, kites, wallpaper, baby clothes ready—and whatever else they are selling nowadays with the likeness of the 44th president plastered on it. Bush is soon to be no more, and soon we will have more –a lot more–of Barack Obama.

He promises to be active from the get-go. God knows, he’s practically been running the country already–meeting with economic and military advisers. Never has there been such a rush to power in recent US history. But I suppose you can argue that he is simply filling a void.

The HBO concert the other day I thought was a bit overboard…well, a lot overboard. The hoopla and celebration and cult-like worship of Obama resembling more a coronation of a monarch than the inauguration of a president.

Soon, though, all the rock music will fade, the HBO specials will be gone, the throngs near the Lincoln Memorial dispersed…and then, we will be left with Barack Obama in the Oval Office.   That is when we will really see what he is made of!
