In a truly stunning admission to ABC Newstonight, Vice-President Richard Cheney admitted he authorized and approved the use of torture and, when asked whether he might have gone too far, said, “I don’t.”
For years there has been speculation how much higher-ups in the Bush administration knew about the harsh interrogation methods (i.e., torture) used against some suspected terrorists, such as Khalid Sheikh Mohammed who claims to have been one of the masterminds of 9/11.
But now, as he is about to leave office–and none too soon–Cheney has come clean by admitting what many have long suspected: that the Vice-President of the United States is a war criminal who ought to be prosecuted as such once he leaves the office he corrupted with his vile presence.
Still left unanswered, of course, is whether President Bush was a co-conspirator with his nut-job Veep?
Waterboarding OK; Keep Guantanamo Open, Says Veep
Cheney told ABC, according to news reports, that he “helped authorize interrogation methods–including waterboarding which simulates drowning.
“I was aware of the program, certainly, and involved in helping get the process cleared…and I supported it,” Cheney said, according to AFP.
Cheney also told ABC News he thinks Guantanamo should stay open for an indefinite period of time!
Cheney has clearly got some screws loose in his head…maybe he shot himself by accident while hunting?
It is telling the American political system, as it exists nowadays, could produce a politician the likes of Cheney, and that he could worm his way into high office by pretending to be a patriot when all he really is and ever was, is a war criminal.
While we should all be glad Cheney is leaving…that is NOT enough. He should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. And, since he thinks Guantanamo is so damn cool, I have a good notion where he should end up!
