Every now a then a story comes along that shows just how stupid certain institutions can be.  In this case, it is even more troubling because the stupid institution in question happens to be a large university system: the University of California.

According to the Sacramento Bee (a newspaper that still is around…for now) more than a dozen UC employees managed to get more than half a million dollars collectively as severance pay to leave their jobs—-only to get quickly re-hired right back at UC, many with six figure yearly salaries.

Nice. Sweet. Odd? Disgusting!

UC, like many universities across the fiscally devastated U.S. is in the process of cutting back and charging students more, which makes this story that much more outrageous.

The new president of UC did manage to issue a statement, according to the paper. He said he is concerned. He said this sort of thing will not happen again. He didn’t say he wanted all that money back!

Shame on UC. Shame on its president. And,shame on Californians who let this sort of nonsense go on!
