Since this presidential election is supposed to be all about change–at least, that is what both Barack Obama and John McCain claim–shouldn’t we also toss the current head of the FBI, Robert Mueller?

Aides to the director claim he has told them he has no intention of stepping down anytime soon after election day.

He has a ten year term that doesn’t end till 2011, but there are many political ways to pressure Mueller to walk out the FBI’s door and never go back.

As a Reuters report says, “A Justice Department inspector general’s report last year…faulted the FBI for widespread misuse of so-called ‘national security letters’ to demand records about individuals in terrorism investigations.” And, he backed the granting of immunity to telecommunications companies that  participated in government eavesdropping.

Yes, he is credited with differing with the CIA on the issue of using torture against terrorism suspects, but Mueller has been on the job since a week before the 9/11 attacks.

If we are really going to have change in Washington and change in the country, then the FBI director has got to go!
