The Democrats may just have a problem on their hands. A new CNN poll just out tonight shows the contest between Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain dead even. Obama 49 and McCain 48.
The poll was taken AFTER the Democratic convention. It was widely expected that Obama would get a big bounce–as they say in polling land–from the big party , which was one of the most widely watched political conventions in history.
The poll was also conducted AFTER John McCain announced Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate.
So, what is going on?
The numbers seem all over the place to be honest. 51 percent of registered voters, says CNN, who watched the convention say it made them more likely to cast their vote for Obama. So why is he not pulling ahead of McCain by double digits, as some thought he would–or should?
Says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland, “…Probably because the two events (the convention and the selection of Palin) created equal and opposite bounces, assuming that either one created a bounce at all.”
927 registered voters were questioned for the poll which has a sampling error of plus or minus three points.
