After Barack Obama returned to the U.S. following his trip to Europe and the Middle East, many asked the question: why didn’t he get a bigger “bounce” in the polls? Why was he still not, as the Clinton’s argued during the primaries, “not closing the deal?”
Well, a new poll out today by Reuters/Zogby raises a different question about Sen. Obama: Why is he now apparently falling behind Republican John McCain?
The poll shows McCain leading Obama among likely U.S. voters by 46 percent to 41 percent–the very first time he has taken the lead in the monthly Reuters/Zogby poll , which is very well respected in the polling industry.
Obama will–or should–benefit greatly by the televised Democratic Convention next week in Denver.
If he does not—if he keeps falling behind McCain in some polls or not doing as well as before in others, then the Democrats may have an enormous problem on their hands come November–A “Superstar” with a failing show.
