As they say in Brooklyn, give me a break!

Still more news coverage today of the New Yorker magazine flap–you know, the one where the magazine’s cover depicts Barack Obama in traditional Muslim clothing, along with his wife sporting an assault rifle in an Oval Office decorated with a picture of Osama bin Laden. An American flag roasts in a fireplace.

by realjameso16The magazine says the whole thing is satire–visually putting together all the rumors and charges that have dogged Obama since the primary days.

An idiot can see that.

But, the Obama campaign, which accused the Clintons during the primaries of “playing the race card” did it themselves with Obama’s spokesman calling it “tasteless and offensive.”

Today, Obama himself weighed in saying he is not personally bothered by the magazine cover, but that it is an insult to all American Muslims.

He told Larry King, “You know, there are wonderful Muslim Americans all across the country who are doing wonderful things. And for this to be used as sort of an insult, or to raise suspicions about me, I think is unfortunate. And it’s not what America’s all about.”

What is really offensive to American Muslims

What Obama is missing is that he, himself, has insulted Mulsims–he does so every time he emphatically states he is a Christian and NOT a Muslim, as if that in and of itself is a bad thing; or every time someone in his own campaign tries to keep American Muslims out of the picture frame at Obama events, as has happened on several occasions and reported widely; or hardly visiting any U.S. mosques even though he has been to many churches.

Aren’t these things individually and collectively far more insulting to American Muslims than the New Yorker magazine cover which, after all, was actually taking Obama’s side and poking fun–granted with a sharp tongue–at all the rumors, half truths and no truths that are out there?

What do you think?
