Bush & McCain Back Off Shore Drilling, Obama Says No

This is where all those years of the Bush presidency may pay off big time for the oil industry.
Bush is set to announce Wednesday that Congress needs to pass legislation that would lift the ban on off-shore oil drilling in place since 1981.
Of course, the off-shore drilling debate is less about what Bush wants than what John McCain and Barack Obama want.
Short version: McCain backs the president on this one, Obama does not.
California and Florida would be two states greatly impacted by any lifting of the off shore drilling ban.
McCain probably figures California is a lost state to him in the general election no matter what he does, but Florida is another matter. Considering that Florida seemed solid Hillary Clinton territory, it could have been a cake walk for McCain. Now, not so sure.
As for Sen. Obama, the question he must answer is–with gas prices getting higher literally by the day, if he is against off shore drilling, what exactly is his comprehensive plan to bring prices down as quickly as possible? More to the point, is that even possible no matter who gets elected in November?
