The Endless Clinton-Obama Debates: Candidates On Defensive After Last Night

Is this getting old or what? The conventional wisdom used to be that presidential candidates ought to debate as much as possible….that is, until this campaign.
I don’t know about you, but I, for one, am getting really tired of the endless Hillary Clinton-Barack Obama debates.
Though they each claim to be taking the higher road, they each engage in mean spirited bashing of the other. Granted, Obama may be more subtle than Clinton in this respect, but he can be just as mean spirited as she.
Both are being widely bashed by critics for last night’s performance. Each tried to explain dumb remarks they made the week before, and, in doing so, probably sounded even dumber.
Clinton called Obama’s now infamous–they are bitter in Pennsylvania remark– “a fundamental misunderstanding of religion and faith.”
Obama, again defending himself for his association with a controversial minister said he already said he found the racist remarks of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright to be “objectionable” but he still hasn’t given a convincing explanation about why he just didn’t stop attending that church?
It took some 40 minutes into the debate till either candidate was able to really speak to the important issues most Americans care about–the Iraq war, the economy, the future.
To a large measure, this was the fault of the moderators of the ABC News debate.
Wouldn’t it be nice if it were December already and this was all behind us?
