Remember the name Otis Moss the second. Otis is not an elevator ,but the new pastor of Barack Obama’s Chicago church, Trinity Church of Christ.
Until very recently, it was the home to the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., whose bigoted and anti-American sermons are now coming back to haunt the campaign of the church’s favorite son.
This week, the media have been filled with stories about the looney tune remarks Wright has made over the years, using his pulpit to “damn” America–in his words–and actually say that the terrorist 9/11 attacks on this country were in Devine retribution for this country’s Middle East policies.
Although Obama has attended this church for some twenty years…although Wright’s sermons gave Obama the title for his best selling book, “The Audacity to Hope,” although Wright married the Obamas and although Wright baptized Obama’s daughters, Obama claims he was unaware till fairly recently that Wright was preaching such inflammatory sermons. Friday, Obama denounced the sermons but said he would stick with his church?
New Nut Job Blames Media
The new pastor today defended Wright and it is now up to Obama to distance himself from the Rev. Moss as well and stop attending this church!
“We have listened and watched as the wonderful work of our church has been vilified this week,” he told his congregants, as reported by Politico.com.
He then went on to “accuse the media of character assassination and ‘crucifixion,’” according to the web account.
In an Alice-through the looking glass - statement, the church said : “Nearly three weeks before the 40th commemorative anniversary of the murder of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Reverend Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr.’s character is being assassinated in the public sphere because he has preached a social gospel on behalf of oppressed women, children and men in America and around the globe.”
Nice try Otis. But your argument is as phony as some presidential candidates.
To stoop so low as to link Wright with Martin Luther King is to show your utter contempt for African-American history and your contempt for the intelligence of your own congregation.
King would have never said “God damn America”–as Wright did.
King would have never blamed America for a terrorist attack on its own shores as Wright did.
King would have never said that America invented and spread the HIV virus to oppress blacks, as Wright did.
King, my dear Otis, wouldn’t have given you or Wright the time of his day.
Cheap Shot
It’s a cheap shot to blame the messenger-though it worked well in ancient Rome, I guess.
The media you are condemning were simply reporting the truth about Wright who is as bigoted as they come and as fanatical.
It is no longer possible for Barack Obama to continue to attend the Trinity United Church of Christ and be elected President of the United States.
Obama can no longer claim he is unaware of what Wright has said in the past; and, he can’t claim he is unaware of the support Wright is now getting from the church’s new pastor.
This is NOT your place, Obama. Walk away from it. Turn your back on the racist and hate-mongering sermonizing preached at the pulpit of this church. Denounce it. Show you are presidential material after all!
