Hillary & Barack? The Mama & Obama! Could Be

I have been saying for some time now that, perhaps, the best way to keep the Democratic Party united in a battle against Republican John McCain is for there to be a joint ticket that includes both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.
Today, a hint from Clinton that this may happen.
On the CBS “Early Show“—which hardly anyone watches, giving Clinton the ability in the future to deny saying this–she was asked whether there was even a possibility of a Clinton/Obama or Obama/Clinton ticket?
“Well, that may be where this is headed, but we have to decide who is on the top of the ticket,” she said.
What is interesting about her remark is that she seems to suggest that while she, of course, would prefer to head the ticket, she might just consider being Veep should Obama get the nomination and ask her.
May not be up to either candidate
More likely, I think, is a deal that will need to be made before this goes to the Denver convention this summer.
Once it goes to the convention floor, all hell could break loose, especially if neither Clinton nor Obama win enough delegates on the first ballot—in which case, we could end up with Al Gore as the party’s nominee afterall!
Instead, Howard Dean, the head of the Democratic Party, will need to sit down with the inner circle of the party (just like in days gone by) and help broker a deal that will keep the party together and give it a fighting chance against a powerful GOP foe.
Could pick others
Clinton, if she wins the nominaiton, could, of course, select John Edwards or another of her former rivals…as could Obama ,should he get the nod.
But, a more challenging and historic ticket would be one that includes a woman and an African-American.
Clinton has the experience; Obama could use more salt
Clinton clearly has more experience than Barack Obama, making her a better fit for the top spot. Obama needs seasoning, but is smart and clearly has the makings of an effective and inspirational leader.
In winning Ohio and Texas, Clinton put back together a winning base of support: she won with the backing of men, women, the elderly, Hispanics, working-class Democrats and rural voters, according to exit polls quoted by Reuters News Service.
If both candidates really care about the future of the nation and truly believe they are a better choice than McCain, a joint ticket may be the ONLY way to go!

I woke up this morning to see a fellow Highbrid Nation writer reporting that Hillary has won the Ohio and Texas primaries and how this is getting bad. And like him I feel like this battle between Obama and Hillary has went on too long and now they are in danger of hurting the party by allowing McCain to take shots at them while they are dealing with each other. Howard Dean should step in and say “Look, Obama is going to be the canidate and Hillary you can be his running mate if you choose”…I know I know that would never happen but a guy can dream right?
