The Clinton Curse: Like Husband, Like Wife–The Downfall of Hillary’s Candidacy

The Clintons may replace the Kennedy’s for reputedly being cursed with bad luck. Or, maybe it has more to do with themselves?
Even the most die hard Hillary Clinton supporter must realize that her goal to become the first female President of the United States is all but unreachable, barring some event so far from left field that no one would be able to see it coming.
What went wrong?
Hillary had an enormous headstart against Barack Obama; she had more money than Barack Obama; she had a better ground organization than Barack Obama; she had more superdelegates (still does, but not for long) than Barack Obama; and, she came complete with a husband whose political skills are legendary.
The “Changing” Season
Much has been written and spoken about Obama’s message of inspirational change, though no one, including the candidate, can explain exactly what he means by that.
The “new” conventional wisdom is that Americans are looking for change, any kind of change, and Hillary and Bill Clinton back in the White House would be just too much a throw back to ancient times.
Maybe. But, I don’t think that’s the reason Hillary has all but lost her chance to get her party’s presidential nomination.
Rather, I think that Hillary suffers from a similiar character flaw as does her more famous husband: an breathtaking inability to see danger ahead and turn the ship around before crashing right into the dock.
My Pal Bill
In the former President’s case, he missed being considered one of this nation’s most important presidents because he was blind to the ramifications of his romancing the stone (Monica) in the Oval Office. His careless attitude about that almost certainly helped pave the road toward the George W. lunacy (sorry, presidency!).
Likewise, Hillary seemed incapable of seeing the true dangers of a cult-like Obama campaign and failed to really alter her game plan from early on that she would put most of her eggs in a handful of delegate rich larger states.
Of course, it didn’t work out that way.
Now what?
There are already rumors around the beltway that Hillary will eventually seperate from Bill, since the corporate merger of their two interests now seems doomed to failure.
Regardless, her political future is still possible, unlike her husband’s. Ironically, a future Hillary Clinton candidate may be a lot stronger without Bill than she was with him.
Especially should Obama lose in a contest against John McCain, Hillary will only be 64 when the next presidential election is held. By then, she would have learned that her husband was not the assest she thought he’d be. Then, maybe she’ll carry on her shoulders only 50 percent of the “curse?”
