This nation’s founding fathers were mostly deists-they believed that God created the universe and then left everyone alone from then on.

The notion that God would be an active player in the Republican (or even Democratic) Party would have made them laugh at first, and recoil in horror second.

Mike Huckabee is an example of the kind of politician George Washington or Thomas Jefferson or Benjamin Franklyn or John Adams or James Madison would have mocked.

Not because of his religious beliefs. He is entitled to them,God knows (pun intended).

They would have mocked him–and politicians like him–because they were wise enough to know that religion did not actively belong in national politics.

Barackism-the “new age” religion?

Barack Obama, who himself projects a Jesus-like figure to many of his followers, is no less guilty of this transgression: he injects his own religious beliefs into the campaign, and encourages  a cult of personality surrounding him. These are the sort of things that the founding fathers would have attributed only to religious fanatics.
