Sen. Barack Obama has seemingly done the impossible: He has gotten the endorsement of John F. Kennedy himself to be the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee in 2008.
Initially, Obama wheeled out the likes of Ted Kennedy and the daughter of the slain president for their endorsement.
But then, not to be outdone,Hillary Clinton announced she had the backing of one of the sisters of Robert Kennedy!
The Kennedys were clearly in play.
An assortment of other lower-level Kennedy clan members backed one candidate of the other, but Obama clearly felt he needed one really big endorsement
And then, it happened. Call it a miracle or call it just plain dumb luck, but early this afternoon, the phone rang in Obama’s hotel suite and who was on the other end of the line but John F. Kennedy himself. Think of what the long distance rates must have been for that call?
Well, anyway, J.F.K made it clear to Obama that he had his blessings to restore Camelot to the White House. At first, Obama thought that was a type of tea no longer served in the Oval Office, but J.F.K was quick to point out that Camelot was not a tea, but state of mind, not to mention a rip-off of the title of a hit Broadway musical.
When J.F.K was in the White House, bluebirds sang, the sun always shined, and the Secret Service knew how to keep Jackie from finding out what her husband was up to while she was giving those Rotary Club speeches.
Now, J.F.K assured Obama, all this would return to D.C. if he were elected President of the United States.
Obama was hoping to have J.F.K sitting at his side during Bush’s State of the Union televised message as a sign of support. But, considering that he is , shall we say, transparent, much like Obama’s self-proclaimed freshness, Obama had to settle with Ted Kennedy sitting beside him.
Tomorrow, word has it, Hillary Clinton will get the backing of John F. Kennedy Jr.
