Why Aren’t Hillary & Barack Talking About Wiretapping?

You’d expect the Republican presidential candidates to not address the issue of eavesdropping by the National Security Agency, but why aren’t the two Democratic party frontrunners, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, making a big stink about this?
The U.S. Senate has apparently caved to the Bush White House. In a 60-36 vote, it rejected a bill passed by its own Judiciary Committee that would have placed more restrictions on the NSA’s ability to conduct government spying and also hold accountable major phone companies, such as AT&T, for their complicty with the NSA’s actions.
The White House is thrilled,of course.
The director of the American Civil Liberties Union’s Washington office told the New York Times, “It appears the Senate is buckling under pressure from the White House.”
But, the puzzle is, why aren’t Clinton and Obama talking about this today instead of trading insults at one another?
Government spying is not a minor issue. It is a major one. And, if one of these two Democrats ends up being President of the United States it is vital to know where they stand on this issue.
Yes, in the past, both have expressed concerns and distaste for the NSA’s free hand given by the Bush White House. But, we are now on the verge of some mighty important law making.
This is the time for Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama to take as firm a stand as possible on this.
As for the Rebublican candidates…too much to expect anything from them on this,
