U.S. Intelligence Report Slaps Down Bush On Iran Nuclear Program

Here’s a shocker: A new report from U.S. intelligence agencies basically calls President Bush a liar when it comes to Iran’s nuclear program.

Of course, the report is far more diplomatic than that…it says, according to Reuters, that Iran pretty much stopped its nuclear weapons program way back in 2003. This, of course, contradicts Bush who keeps saying that a nuclear armed Iran could cause World War Three.

Problem is, the facts don’t support Bush’s rhetoric. The National Intelligence Estimate goes on to say that while Iran continues to develop the technical ability to eventually build an atomic bomb, it would not be able to produce enough of the needed enriched uranium for a nuclear weapon until “sometime during the 2010-2015 time frame.”

What’s more, says the report, “We do not know whether Iran currently intends to develop nuclear weapons.”

This is a direct slap at the President who makes it sound as if Iran is on the verge of testing such weapons, leading to increased concern that he might stage some sort of military strike before his term in office comes to an end.

Of course, the last time Bush shot his mouth off about weapons of mass destruction, it was about Iraq, which led to the current protracted war. And, as we all now know, Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction.

Although the White House keeps saying there are no plans to engage Iran with a military strike, it sure does seem like we’ve been down this dangerous road before.
