Florida Taser Madness; Sen. John Kerry Wimps Out

Wasn’t long ago when a UCLA student was Tasered in the school’s library because he didn’t have his university picture ID with him. And now, University of Florida police officers have used a Taser on another student who was in the middle of asking Sen. John Kerry a question, though not in the most diplomatic of ways.

Still, as the video link below will show, the cops moved in to escort 20 year old Andrew Meyer’s out, prompting Meyer’s to resist their attempts to remove and arrest him as he repeatedly tried to find out why and on what grounds.

Now back to John Kerry. If this is the “leadership” he shows, perhaps it was good he didn’t become president…even if it did leave us with the moron currently in the White House. Kerry could have stopped the ugly incident easily by walking over to the site of the confrontation to diffuse it. Instead, you can hear him on the videos continuing to talk. It is not possible he could not have heard Meyer’s screams; they could be heard halfway to Cuba. In this case, the Vietnam war hero proved not so heroic.

And, for that matter, nor were the students. While some shouted at the cops ,while at least a few took video, you can see many just sitting in their seats watching the action unfold.

In the days of Vietnam War protests, there would probably have been a wider confrontation between the police and the students ,as some would have surely come to the aid of a fellow student being virtually attacked by campus police. Shame on those who just sat and watched as if it was another video game before them.

Lastly, the attitude of the campus police in Florida and the campus police in the earlier incident at UCLA needs to be put in some context. These incidents come at a time when the President of the United States approves of the use of torture (no matter what Bushie likes to call it, that is what it is) and CIA and military personnel in Iraq and at secret CIA facilities in Europe, apparently continue gross violations of human rights in the name of fighting terrorism.

What we witnessed on the Florida campus was no less than state sponsered terrorism.
