Poor sharks. They have never been able to put the negative pr of “Jaws” behind them.

Everytime people spot a shark in the water…they panic and, if they can, try to kill the shark before it kills them…or so they believe.

Well, now the truth finally comes out: Sharks are apparently more afraid of us than we are of them.

A 5 foot long shark was minding its own business this weekend but managed to frighten swimmers at Rockaway Beach in New York.

People fled the ocean. Officials closed the beach.

The poor shark, only seeking some human friendship, actually came ashore but was shoved back into the water by people on the beach. For a shark, that is extreme humiliation!

And then, Sunday, there it was. The shark was seen again in the waters near Rockaway. But, this time, there was something very different about it.   It was dead.

The poor fish had obviously been scared to death by its encounter with people.

Officials say it is now safe to go back into the water. For people, or the fish?
