GONZALES TO STEP DOWN; BUSH SAYS HE STILL BACKS HIM

Alberto GonzalesThe embattled U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales has decided to take his legal briefs elsewhere and will step down, White House insiders say.

Although President Bush still says he fully backs Gonzales, apparently no one else in government does.

Congress wants to know whether Gonzales presided over a justice department that became increasingly partisan, even going so far as to have candidates for key prosecutor posts screened for their views on the Bush administration.

At the heart of the Gonzales affair is a probe into whether several U.S. Attorneys were fired because they either refused to go after key Democrats or else actually prosecuted some powerful Republicans.

It is n ot known what day Gonzales will actually pack his bags.

*******************************************************************************

Well, of course, this is all a dream (like a bad TV Soap) and Gonzales has not,in fact, announced his resignation, though many hope that he will soon. Bush still, in fact, defends his Attorney General, maybe the only human being in the entire country to still do so.

No matter. The fake headline above will shortly be a real one. Trust me. Right now, in Washington, if there were a popularity contest between Gonzales and Hitler, the German would win hands down.

The whole thing is a bit like one of those inane car chases you sometimes see on TV where the cops are chasing a suspect who is fleeing in a car. Here in L.A., to my knowledge, no one ever got away from the cops in the end. So, you wonder why they don’t just give up the ghost?

Likewise, everyone, probably even Gonzales, knows his days in office are numbered better than the clauses in a RICO indictment.

So, for the time being, just gaze upon the fake headline above and hope that Disney was right and that wishes do come true.
